Hi everybody!! Estelle and I had a very good 2007. Lots of hard work but we're not done yet. New roofs on cottages 1 & 2 , lots of green/yellow/white paint, new furniture, new signs, more landscaping etc were done in 2007. Maple Grove is on Digby Side Road off highway # 542, 8 km east of Mindemoya. From South Baymouth: We are 28 km from the ferry. Take highway # 6 north , turn left onto highway # 542 towards Mindemoya. You will drive through Sandfield, where there is a LCBO outlet. Maple Grove is 11 km from here, watch for the signs. From Little Current: We are 45 km from the swing bridge. Take highway # 540 towards Gore Bay, at M'Chigeeng turn left on highway # 551 to Mindemoya. In Mindemoya turn left on highway # 542. You are 8 km from Maple Grove look for the signs. Maple Grove Cottages on Big Lake-Manitoulin Island

Big Lake is about 1 mile by 3 miles in size. Maple Grove is the only cottage business on Big Lake. MGC has over 650 feet of shoreline on Big Lake. A nice sand beach is located at the north end of the property close to cottage # 5. MGC has 5 rental cottages. All the cottages include fridge, stove, mircowave, pots pans and dishes, color TV/VCR, bedding, screened in porch, propane BBQ and a fire pit with chairs. Motor boats, canoe are available to rent by the hour/day/week. Firewood is also available for sale on site. Kid's swings, horseshoes, volleyball, badminton, croquet, Texas horseshoes and shuffleboard are available at NO COST thour cottagers. MGC offers clean cozy cottages, picturesque sunsets and the cries of the loons too. MGC is centrally located about 8 km east of Mindemoya off highway 542. Bridal Veil Falls, Providence Bay beach and boardwalk, Cup and Saucer hiking trail and many more attractions are but a short drive away.

This is a very typical gorgeous sunset as viewed from the front porch of your cottage. Can you get used to this, every day???? We can and do!!!

In 2007 Estelle and I plan to revamp all the cottages at Maple Grove inside and out. New Dimplex electric heaters will be installed in all the cottages that presently have woodstoves. A new brighter outside paint colour will adorn the cottages. Upgrades to the plumbing and pump house are also in the plans. Landscaping improvements to spruce the property up are also planned.

In the summer of 2006 we took the big plunge and purchased Maple Grove Cottages from Argo and Susan who had operated MGC for 4 years. Estelle and I are the 6th owners of Maple Grove and we will try our best to make it the nicest cottage resort on Manitoulin. Thank you for your interest in our website/blog and we are looking forward to seeing you at MGC in the future.

In 1946 the Young family started Maple Grove on the edge of Big Lake. The Young's still own almost 1000 acres in this area. They ran the cottages until the early 1970's when it was sold to an American from Ohio.
